Old Soul Vintage, a woman-owned resale shop in Detroit’s Cass Corridor, has collaborated with local designers and the band Shadow Show to release Charades, a sustainable, made-to-order clothing line. The limited-edition collection is available to purchase through April 20.

Charades features tunics, blouses, skirts, and pants conceptualized from a blend of music, style, and cultural movements spanning centuries. The theatrical patterns, black-and-white color scheme, and various silhouettes are inspired by harlequin costumes from the 1600s; the Mod fashions of 1960s counterculture; and The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, a film documenting the band’s December 1968 concert that was performed on a makeshift circus stage in the United Kingdom.

The collection’s theme also takes inspiration from Shadow Show, a psychedelic-rock trio, and their debut album, Silhouettes. The looks are named after and modeled by the group’s members — guitarist Ava East, bassist Kate Derringer, and drummer Kerrigan Pearce — and the collection itself is named after the album’s hit song “Charades.”

“Old Soul Vintage is about community first and foremost,” says Mary Capicchioni, owner of Old Soul Vintage, in a press release. “[So,] a year ago when I had the idea to create a line with Shadow Show, I saw it as an opportunity to have other creatives involved as far as construction, design, and photography is concerned.”

All of Charades’ garments are constructed by Leslie Graver, a designer, visual merchandiser, stylist, and owner of handmade fashion company Bitchin’ Stitchin.’ Meanwhile, Jess Erickson, owner of handmade earrings company Crying Heart Craft Co., made jewelry that matches the looks.

Folks can shop Charades online.  Prices range from $40 to $120. To be as size-inclusive as possible and minimize fabric waste, there are no preexisting sizes to choose from and shoppers must instead submit their exact measurements when ordering. There are detailed instructions on how to measure yourself on the website.

Locals can also choose to get measured at Old Soul Vintage instead (just make note of that in the description at checkout) and the shop, located at 3267 B Cass Ave., offers free alterations. All sales are final, and items in the collection take four to six weeks to construct.
