Beacon Park’s 10,000-square foot heated tent, the Winter Lodge, will be transformed into a cozy movie theatre this month. From Feb. 10- 24, the DTE Beacon Park Foundation and the Downtown Detroit Partnership will host weekly February Flicks, a series of free feature films along with movie-themed activities and entertainment.
Highlights include:
February 10: Beauty and the Beast, Casablanca, and The Big Sick. Sing along with costumed Disney characters, take home a free black-and-white photo booth keepsake, and indulge in Valentine’s Day chocolate treats.
February 17: Films include The Lego Batman Movie, Sleepless in Seattle, and Loving Vincent. Kids can practice their Lego building skills at tables set up by a local Lego-land contractor. Later in the evening, adults can play Sleepless in Seattle trivia for prizes, and hands-on painting after Loving Vincent.
February 24: Despicable Me 3, Wonder Woman, and Dunkirk will close out the festival. Play freeze-dance with a chance to win prizes, make-and-take a Wonder Woman style tiara, and enjoy a performance by local JROTC members.
Food and drinks will be available for purchase, including Jetta’s Gourmet Popcorn, Sweetwater Tavern’s chicken wings and smash burgers, and cinematic-themed mixed drinks. Seating is limited so guests are encouraged to bring a folding beach chair or blanket.
