Nisrin Makki

A lover of all things Tim Burton, Nisrin Makki spends most of her free time reading dark literature. The Madonna University senior will receive her journalism and public relations degree this month. With the support of the university’s staff, Makki had the opportunity to experience the different realms of journalism by completing three separate internships — Hour Detroit being her latest and greatest. Her dream job is to work for The New York Times Book Review, where she would be in her element by reading numerous amounts of twisted Burton-esque books.

Spencer White

Spencer White is a 23-year-old writer from Commerce Township. White initially attended Albion College with the goal of becoming an English teacher, but switched to journalism after realizing that explaining things to adults is a lot easier than explaining things to children. His life goal is to have someone pay him to write about death metal and horror movies. When he’s covering less grisly topics, White enjoys finding the details that set a story apart. In this month’s review of the east-side watering hole Cadieux Café, details like an ancient traditional bar game and specialty mussels sucked him in. White hopes to live and work in Detroit for the foreseeable future.

Jenna Wos

With interests in art and entertainment and a passion for bringing to light hidden stories, an editorial internship with Hour Detroit is the perfect fit for Jenna Wos. She looks forward to the experience she will gain and the opportunities presented to learn about metro Detroit. This is her second internship with Hour Media, her first being with DBusiness magazine. Graduating from the University of Michigan-Dearborn in May with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, Wos is the copy editor and a writer for the university’s newspaper, The Michigan Journal. In her spare time, she frequents the theater and enjoys grim novels.
