Kudos to Crispelli’s
I just had the pleasure of reading Christopher Cook’s review of Crispelli’s Restaurant in Berkley [“Simple and Savory,” June 2012]. My family and I have dined there on several occasions but were initially put off by the reviews everyone seemed to be giving the restaurant on Yelp. The Yelp reviewers kept calling Crispelli’s “cafeteria dining” and “chaotic.” Yet every reviewer raved about the food, but it was still secondary to the experience of roaming to food stations, similar to the experience of a food court. I found it to be very European and very much like a small marketplace. And the food was fantastic. Sure enough, when I had a chance to visit their website, it referred to the atmosphere of a “mercado.”

A Fond Picture
It was great to see that Carol Wald is remembered by Hour Detroit [Detroit artists in the DIA collection series, June 2012.] She was a brilliant artist. I graduated about the same time as Carol [from Cass Tech]. I won a painting scholarship and studied with Sarkis Sarkisian and Guy Palazzola.

The Very Best
Although Ann [Stevenson] and I were a bit too occupied with our new Vinsetta Garage to attend the Best of Detroit party, the chatter from friends in the Clarkston Union family gave the [June 22] event very high praise.
In a month that has given this Clarkston-based flight crew a thing or two to talk about, Hour Detroit’s “Best Of” honors [four total awards for the Clarkston Union and Union Woodshop] stand out as a high-water mark. It put a bit of a strut into the Union crew’s step and gave Chef Aaron [Cozadd] a piece of a very important spotlight (which he’s happy to share).
The Hour Detroit awards are the city’s gold standard, and it means the world to see our joints included in them.
