Renewed Interest
We are subscribers to Hour Detroit who live in Denver. We were born and raised in Detroit but have lived here for 45 years. We have been receiving your magazine for a few years now, but I was ready to drop my subscription until the April and May issues. The piece on greening Detroit (“Toward a Leaner, Greener Detroit,” April 2013) gives us a feeling that there is hope for the hometown we have a special place in our hearts for. The Clinton-Kalamazoo Canal story (“Big Plans: When Erie Canal Envy Got Michigan Digging,” May 2013) was fascinating. We never knew about this canal, and our Detroit relatives did not know either. Please keep up the good work in informing us about our beloved Detroit — not just the elite part. Thank you.

Heroes Among Us
My son did such a heroic thing. He helped save three people in a house fire. We are so proud, and just today I received Hour Detroit with the heroes on the cover (June 2013). It was great! I love your magazine. It’s in my waiting room every month.

Criminal Coverage?
I am appalled at your layout for the Best of Detroit issue (June 2013). It is beyond my scope of understanding why a magazine that purports to support metro Detroit would choose to display the best of the city against a backdrop of crime and urban decay … One photo shows a man pointing a gun in the background. Seriously? In this day and age? Your attempt at an avant garde photo spread has missed the mark entirely.
