Turn Off the Flash
We eat out 300 days per year and sit near the natural light 90 percent of the time and never ever have used the flash (“Food Porn Illness,” August 2015). We use just a small point-and-shoot Samsung 16MP camera. A limited income only allows me to eat at mom-and-pop family spots with meals under $10. Ten years ago I self taught the “food porn” craft being inspired by following the Hungry Dudes. I praise their work and continue to follow Joe (Hakim) on his statewide food travels. My focus is on the area Downriver that has always been overlooked by the food critics in all forms. Thanks for the great article.

A Good Recovery
Great story! (“Chef’s Choice,” August 2015). I have been hearing about Recovery Park from Tom Hakin whose daughter Annie is part of the team. Looking forward to learning more. Hour Detroit — the diversity of stories you share keeps me reading. I am in awe of the many good things going on in Detroit.

Brilliant story! (“Star Search,” August 2015). I’m looking forward to visiting the park in the near future. Thank goodness that this natural beauty (on a pristine peninsula) is being preserved.

// This article brought back a lot of memories of staring up at the skies as a kid, waiting for shooting stars. I don’t get to experience this anymore, living in a big city. Maybe I need to come to Michigan!

// It’s good to be reminded of the simple joy of looking at the night sky. Glad to know that a movement is underway to help ensure that people can continue to connect with nature in this way.

I’m all for diversity, but many @Hour_Detroit’s featured models, in their cover photos, all highlight Euro-Americans. Detroit is 83 percent black.
// What an exquisite review of Antietam restaurant in your September issue by Christopher Cook! Delicious!
// @Hour_Detroit’s August issue was all about the Motor City’s booming food scene — absolutely brilliant, and so exciting!
