We’ve Got Mail: July 2011

Praise us or pan us, but just put it down in words. Bravos or boos, we want to hear from you.

Suite Talk

Thank you so much for including the feature on our new Laura Bush Suite at Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island [“The Grand’s Suite Spots,” May 2011]. The story well represented the suite, and the quotes from the interview with our interior designer, Carleton Varney, were enjoyable to read — even for someone who works at the hotel.

Jumping for Joy

I want to thank you for reviewing Jumps restaurant in your May 2011 issue. It’s such an honor for us, and we are very grateful. The article and pictures read and look great.

Photographer Joe Vaughn and assistant Matt Prested did a great job with the pictures, and the five to six hours that they spent in the restaurant taking photos was done with professionalism and great consideration to our dining guests. Many of our guests complimented us on how they worked as we continued business as usual.

Writer Christopher Cook did a great job describing our ambience at Jumps. I have received many compliments about the article already.

So, thank you for this privilege and [for being included] in this elite company of featured restaurants. With only 11 a year, and one Restaurant of the Year [that you publish], we’re very honored to have our restaurant in that prestigious group.

— Chad Stewart, owner/chef, and wife, Mavelle, co-owner, Jumps Restaurant, Grosse Pointe Farms

Bad Language

One more on speaking the English language [“40 Different Words and Phrases Not to Use,” December 2010]. I am hearing people on TV using such sloppy language such at “ta” (to), “fer” (for), and “gonna” (going to).

On Our Game

I have to thank you for the outstanding article about Racquet Up Detroit [“Courting Success,” May 2011]. It has been such a great boost for us; everyone’s talking about it. Writer Aleene Jinn George did an incredible job, and David Lewinski’s photos are amazing. Thanks [to Rebecca Powers] for the time you took beforehand to discuss my concerns. I could not be more pleased.

— Derek Aguirre, Founder, Racquet Up, Detroit
