In Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties, 589,000+ people live in poverty – including 197,000+ children and nearly 55,000 seniors over the age of 65. That’s why Forgotten Harvest is dedicated to relieving hunger in metro Detroit and preventing nutritious food waste. // MISSION

We are dedicated to relieving hunger and preventing nutritious food waste. We envision communities that work together to end hunger and increase individual, neighborhood, economic, and environmental health.

// KEY SERVICES PROVIDED

Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. As metro Detroit’s largest food rescue organization, Forgotten Harvest has rescued an average of 46 million pounds of food during each of the last 10 years.

This is done by collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from over 580 locations, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors, and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, which would otherwise go to waste, is delivered free of charge to over 200 emergency food providers in the metro Detroit area.
