We’ve all heard it by now: one of the top ways to combat COVID-19 is to wash your hands. The recommended time to lather up, according to the CDC, is at least 20 seconds, and there’s more musical options to scrub along to than “Happy Birthday” or the “ABCs.” Check out these selections by artists with metro Detroit roots. They all clock in at — or just above — 20 seconds.

Aretha Franklin – “Respect”

What you want

Baby, I got it

What you need

Do you know I got it?

All I’m askin’

Is for a little respect when you get home (just a little bit)

Hey baby (just a little bit) when you get home

(Just a little bit) mister (just a little bit)

Eminem – “Lose Yourself”

You better lose yourself in the music, the moment

You own it, you better never let it go

You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow

This opportunity comes once in a lifetime

(x2)

Bob Seger – “Ramblin Gamblin Man”

But I got to ramble (Ramblin’ man)

Gamble (Gamblin’ man)

Got to got to ramble (Ramblin’ man)

I was born a ramblin’ (Gamblin’ man)

Yeah, Uh-uh

Say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Madonna – “Material Girl”

‘Cause we’re living in a material world

And I am a material girl

You know that we are living in a material world

And I am a material girl

Living in a material world

And I am a material girl

You know that we are living in a material world

And I am a material girl

The Temptations – “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg”

I know you wanna leave me,

But I refuse to let you go,

If I have to beg, plead for your sympathy,

I don’t mind ’cause you mean that much to me.

Ain’t too proud to beg and you know it,

Please don’t leave me girl,

Don’t you go

Alice Cooper – “School’s Out”

Well we got no choice

All the girls and boys

Makin’ all that noise

‘Cause they found new toys

Well we can’t salute ya can’t find a flag

If that don’t suit ya that’s a drag

School’s out for summer

School’s out forever

School’s been blown to pieces

Lizzo – “Truth Hurts”

(Yes, the Grammy Award-winning singer has local ties. She was born in Detroit in 1988.)

Why men great ’til they gotta be great?

Don’t text me, tell it straight to my face

Best friend sat me down in the salon chair

Shampoo press, get you out of my hair

Fresh photos with the bomb lighting

New man on the Minnesota Vikings

Truth hurts, needed something more exciting

Bom bom bi dom bi dum bum bay

Eminem – “Not Afraid”

I’m not afraid (I’m not afraid)

To take a stand (To take a stand)

Everybody (Everybody)

Come take my hand (Come take my hand)

We’ll walk this road together, through the storm

Whatever weather, cold or warm

Just lettin’ you know that you’re not alone

Holla if you feel like you’ve been down the same road

Stevie Wonder – “Isn’t She Lovely”

Isn’t she lovely?

Isn’t she wonderful?

Isn’t she precious?

Less than one minute old

I never thought through love we’d be

Makin’ one as lovely as she

But isn’t she lovely, made from love?

The Supremes – “You Can’t Hurry Love”

You can’t hurry love

No, you just have to wait

She said love don’t come easy

It’s a game of give and take

You can’t hurry love

No, you just have to wait

You got to trust, give it time

No matter how long it takes

Eminem, Royce da 5’9″, Big Sean, Danny Brown, Dej Loaf, Trick Trick – “Detroit Vs. Everybody”

Tell ’em if they want it, they can come get that (Statik)

See me, they salute me, they ain’t ready for that (Statik)

Detroit vs. Everybody

(X2)

The Romantics – “What I Like About You”

What I like about you

You hold me tight

Tell me I’m the only one

You wanna come over tonight, yeah

People whispering in my ear

Tell me all the things that I want to hear

Cause it’s true

That’s what I like about you

Four Tops – “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)”

Sugar pie, honey bunch

You know that I love you

I can’t help myself

I love you and nobody else

(X2)

Dej Loaf – “No Fear”

I know my life can get so crazy but as long as you’re right here

None of the gossip, nothing can stop us

I’m wanna love you with no fears

We can do this thing together

Close your eyes and take my hand

‘Cause what we have is something special

Baby let’s just take our chance

(Baby let’s just take our chance)

The White Stripes – “Seven Nation Army”

I’m gonna fight ’em off

A seven nation army couldn’t hold me back

They’re gonna rip it off

Taking their time right behind my back

And I’m talking to myself at night

Because I can’t forget

Back and forth through my mind

Through a cigarette

Big Sean, featuring Kanye West and Roscoe Dash – “Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay”

Early in the mornin’ (mornin’)

When she’s all alone (when she’s all alone)

I’m a take my time (yeah)

Do it how we want it (do it how we want)

Just to set the mood girl I bought some Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay

Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up

Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up, Hold up
