K. Walker Collective Opens Flagship Store in Midtown Detroit.

K.Walker Collective, a lifestyle clothing brand founded by local designer and brand strategist Ken Walker, open its flagship store in Detroit on Saturday, Nov. 26.

Seven Michigan State University football players have been charged in tunnel conflict.

The assault on two Wolverines players occurred Oct. 29 in the Michigan Stadium tunnel following the game against U-M and MSU. The players were suspended upon video evidence showing the fight.

A new shelter for homeless cats and dogs to be built in Detroit.

The 30,000-square-foot facility will be a shelter, animal control headquarters, and a veterinary clinic. Construction will begin in January, and the facility is slated to open before the end of 2023.

Michigan will begin testing wastewater for polio.

On Nov. 30, the CDC announced it will begin testing samples for polio in Michigan and Pennsylvania as part of an effort to target parts of the country with low poliovirus vaccination rates. A spokesperson from the state health department says testing will begin in a few weeks and will likely include sewer samples from Oakland County.

SMART plans to create an express shuttle from downtown Detroit to DTW airport.

The transit line is being made possible through a $2 million grant under the infrastructure law. The city of Detroit hopes to have it running by late 2023 or early 2024.

Westin Book Cadillac Detroit Hotel to undergo a $20 million renovation.

The project includes a new contemporary design of the hotel’s guest rooms and suites, 36,000 square feet of meeting and banquet space, and a new dining experience that will be introduced next year.

The Schvitz owners plan to open a wellness project inside a Romanian Catholic Church.

Lynch and Sons Healing Center will offer alternative grief counseling services though guided meditation, movement therapy, yoga, and more. Located inside St. John the Baptist Church in Detroit, an opening reception is slated for Dec. 10.

Two wrongfully convicted brothers from Pontiac are suing for $125 million.

Melvin and George DeJesus served 25 years in prison for a murder case from 1995, before being exonerated in March 2022. Their lawsuit alleges police fabricated and withheld evidence.

State Senate votes to hold Michigan’s 2024 presidential election primary earlier.

The Senate vote was 34-1 on the proposal, which would change the primary from the second Tuesday in March to the second Tuesday in February.

Detroit Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson is named NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Month.

Hutchinson became the third Lions player to earn the title and the first in more than a decade.

A 24/7 restaurant and convenience store chain is coming to metro Detroit in 2025.

Sheetz, a Pennsylvania-based chain, will open its first store location in the area. The business is known for its Made-to-Order menu featuring Sheetz’s customized specialty drinks and food items.
