Detroit Welcomes World’s Largest Kinara for Kwanzaa

The world’s largest Kinara is coming to Campus Martius in downtown Detroit as part of an all-new Kwanzaa event called The Motor City Kwanzaa celebration. On Dec. 26, guests can watch one of the candles be lit and listen to a discussion on the Seven Principles of Kwanzaa.

An Immersive Disney Animation Experience is coming to Detroit

Walt Disney Animation Studios and Lighthouse Immersive Studios, the producers of “Immersive Van Gogh,” have teamed up to develop the Disney Animation Immersive Experience, which will place audiences in the middle of their favorite Disney films. It is set to premier in Detroit on Feb. 9 and will run through May 14.

Pine Knob named world’s No. 1 concert amphitheater

The music theatre racked up nearly $37 million in ticket sales this year, making it the top grossing amphitheater in the world, according to data from Pollstar magazine. Little Caesars Arena ranked No. 10 and Fox Theatre placed 15th.

Michigan Theater to show free double feature for MLK Jr. Day

The Ann Arbor movie theatre has partnered with the African American Cultural and Historical Museum of Washtenaw County to present free screenings of “Summer of Soul” and “King in the Wilderness” on Jan. 16.

Three men are sentenced in plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer

Pete Musico, Joe Morrison, and Paul Bellar were sentenced Thursday in Jackson County. The prosecution argued that while the men were unsuccessful in their plot, “they committed the most serious of crimes.”
