While we had the attention of 12 accomplished makeup artists, we sought a little free advice for looking our summer best.

Barbara Deyo
“Less is more. Instead of foundation, use a sheer mineral tinted bronzer on the cheeks, a little mascara, and a pop of color (coral or raspberry) on the lips. If you’re pale, use an airbrush tan.”

Robin Manoogian
“I’m into high glamour. Keep everything glossy with gels and creams to create a dewy look. I’m anti powder.”

David Marks
“Light. Light. Light. Sparkly on the eye. A nude, luscious lip.”

Sydni Jones
“Makeup this summer should be subtle but colorful.”

Andrea Duchesneau
“Apply a bronzer to your face wherever the sun would hit you naturally. Use an illuminating, iridescent powder on the upper cheekbones for a healthy glow. Finish with peach or coral lip gloss.”

Dawn Baker
“Follow what looks best on you, not what the experts say is ‘in.’”

Belen Sheppard
“My tip is for men to do ‘man-scaping.’ Tidy up eyebrows and other facial hair. Plus, a little guy-liner doesn’t hurt, especially for the fair-haired blond men with lashes that nearly disappear from sun lightening.”

Jon Lieckfelt
“Keep your face out of the sun. Invest in custom-made self-tanners and bronzers that flatter your skin tone. Warm neutrals on the eyes, peach lips and cheeks. Switch from powder blush to cream for summer.”

Todd Skog
“Aside from applying SPF 70, I suggest incorporating a little color into your beauty wardrobe — on the eyes and lips.”

Gjysta Nuculaj
“Don’t be afraid of color. Add pops of color with pouty raspberry or coral lip and cheek stains.”

George McKenney
“Protect your skin from harsh rays. Use makeup with an SPF factor, no matter what your skin tone. Avoid heavy moisturizer. Switch to a light lotion unless you have extremely dry skin.”

Michelle Beaudette-Grates
“Use self-tanning cream or bronzer for a nice glow. I like ‘Delicious’ by Clarins.”
