Winter music teaserGood news for local music fans. The first Winter Music Mash will be held this Saturday, January 27, in downtown Dearborn. The one-day festival will feature 17 bands and musicians across eight venues. Attendees are invited to listen to new music, browse vinyl and shop locally crafted goods.

Live music will begin at 11 a.m. and will echo throughout each venue until 11:30 p.m. Musicians include electro-pop group Telephon9, The Creepos, who perform covers and original songs inspired by the ‘50s and ‘60s, acoustic artist Karley Davidson, and the Dearborn School of Music. Venues include record stores such as Dearborn Music and Stormy Records, as well as local bars like The Biergarten and Moose’s Pub.

Stacey Grant, founder and owner of Made Metro Collective, which is hosting the festival, says she came up with the idea for the Winter Music Mash because the post-holiday season tends to present a lull in business for local shops. “We figured it’s the winter and nobody wants to do anything, … so why don’t we get people out and give them a reason to support local businesses and local musicians,” she explains.

Grant says that when she reached out to local musicians to participate, the response was greater than she had hoped. Even more musicians wanted to play, but with the need to go to print with the line-up, some had to be turned away. So while it’s only in its first year, Grant is confident the event has potential to grow in the future.
