West Bloomfield nonprofit Friendship Circle is hosting its 17th annual Walk4Friendship on Aug. 28. The event is a 2-mile fundraiser walk that benefits the organization and the individuals and families supported by Friendship Circle.

The theme for this year’s event is “Built on Friendship,” and in honor of this theme, Friendship Circle is encouraging those interested in participating to invite their friends to join the organization and help further its mission, which is to provide special needs individuals and their families with recreational, social, educational, and vocational programming.

“Walk4Friendship is our single most important event of the year,” says Friendship Circle Co-founder Bassie Shemtov in a press release. “The walk is where we raise the essential funding that drives all our programming and allows us to provide support, vocational opportunities, and most importantly friendship, to these amazing individuals. We cannot wait to welcome our extended circle of friends from all backgrounds to join us to celebrate each unique individual apart of the Friendship Circle family.”

The Walk4Friendship event will be held at Friendship Circle’s Farber Center, located at 5586 Drake Road in West Bloomfield Township. The opening ceremony for the walk will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the walk starting at 11:45 a.m. The walk will end at the Meer center where there will be a celebration with free entertainment, activities, food, refreshments, and more.

Participants can register individually or as part of a team, and advanced preregistration is available online now. There will also be registration tables on-site the day of the walk. Free T-shirts will be provided to those who register online and in person. T-shirts will also be available for $5 after the walk.

Registration for Walk4Friendship is free. However, participants are encouraged to support Friendship Circle by raising funds for the organization. Friendship Circle set its fundraising goal for this year’s event at $650,000.
