526 MAIN/TEQUILA BLUE:
Two restaurants under one roof, the duo offers an American menu on the airy ground floor and a Mexican menu on the second where the décor is south-of-the-border. Diners, however, may mix and match burgers and baby-back ribs with enchiladas and tostadas if they wish. The first-floor space is also home to dueling pianos Wednesday through Saturday and enough TV screens for a sports bar.
1526 Main St., Royal Oak; 248-591-9000, 526main.com. L & D daily. $15
HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY:
A bastion of Hungarian folk art and fare, this Downriver restaurant offers what has become rare in the area: authentic Hungarian dishes from chicken and veal paprikás and beef goulash to palacsinta (crêpes) and pastries in a big, bustling dining room done up with garlands of red peppers and colorful porcelain plates.
