Bites: December 2010

When proprietor Nicole Barbour and consultant Paul Silveri of Detroit’s Atlas Global Bistro attended a James Beard dinner in New York last year, they met and bonded with restaurateur/pastry chef/cookbook author Pichet Ong. Now Ong, whose résumé includes some of New York’s trendiest restaurants, is in town helping to restructure the menu and design of the Detroit restaurant. Quite a coup for the Midtown spot. … An elaborate rodizio restaurant, Texas de Brazil, is saddling up for a move to downtown Detroit, where it will take up major space on the first floor of the Compuware Building on Campus Martius. The meaty spot has outposts in Nevada, Florida, New York, Texas, and several other states (as well as in Aruba and Trinidad). …  Simon Bennett, whose offbeat Ferndale sushi bar, Nami, closed after 13 years, is now at Blufin Sushi in Grosse Pointe Farms. …  Cinco Lagos, Brian Polcyn’s Mexican spot in Milford, has a new executive chef, Joseph Olson, who had been with Polcyn’s Forest Grill since it opened.
