Figuring that not everyone wants to spend $65 on a steak, Matthew Prentice came up with the idea of a steakhouse offering lesser cuts of prime beef at a friendlier price. Chef Travis Waynick has been given the task of making the lesser cuts appealing, as he has with the hanger steak with chimichurri sauce and short ribs with herb polenta. There’s also a good burger that’s offered in several interpretations. And yes, if you want the pricey stuff, it’s available, too. Detroit memorabilia sets the scene in a series of dining rooms, with Bob-Lo, Vernor’s, Detroit Tigers, and Motown effects used cleverly throughout the space.

The self-portrait of Frida Kahlo, interpreted by a local artist, explains the name of this attractive Mexican spot with a bistro-like setting enhanced with folk art. The menu includes the tacos, burritos, enchiladas, and fajitas that define Mexican fare locally, but also goes beyond to offer ceviche, salmon in salsa verde, mole poblano, steak with tomatillo salsa, and other more traditional dishes.
