Déjà Food: Vincenzo’s One-Man Show

Later, during dessert, he would sit down at the piano and sing some songs … or was it a dream?
1015

Most older folks remember Lelli’s on Woodward, just north of Grand Boulevard. And some remember Benno’s. But few seem to remember an alternative when Lelli’s was too crowded: Vincenzo’s, north of Lelli’s. Diners would receive a warm welcome from Vincenzo, who checked the coats. This exuberant and warm man then took the order and went to the kitchen and cooked, serving some excellent Italian food. Was there tableside cherries jubilee or baked Alaska torched by Vincenzo after he bused the table? Later, during dessert, he would sit down at the piano and sing some songs … or was it a dream? — Steven Frank, Dearborn
