Our story on the City of Champions reminded us of the old phrase, “Breakfast of Champions.” Perhaps it’s only something literature geeks may know, but it isn’t just a Wheaties cereal slogan. In the Kurt Vonnegut Jr. novel, a waitress says “Breakfast of Champions” each time she delivers a martini. We asked Travis Fourmont, cocktail ambassador for Great Lakes Wine & Spirits, for his “ultimate martini” recipe. Here’s one he developed for Café Felix in Ann Arbor — just to kick your morning off right.
2 ounces Two James 28 Island Vodka
½ ounce Dolin Blanc vermouth
2 dashes orange bitters
Serve stirred over ice and strain into a coupe glass; garnish with a lemon twist.
