Beignets 2 Go
Operating every weekend in Eastern Market, Beignets 2 Go brings a taste of New Orleans to Detroit. The airy beignets are flash fried fresh, giving them an irresistible crispy exterior. Topped with a heap of powdered sugar and served in fours, these beignets are just begging to be paired with a cup of hot chicory coffee. Former IT employee Bob Perye traded in office life for the food life, bringing Ferndale all manners of smoked meats such as beef brisket, pulled pork, and ribs, well as appropriate sides such as beans, greens, and yams, all cooked low and slow over an oak fire. Loncheria El Parian
Get a car wash and tacos at the same time. This southwest Detroit staple has several trucks in its fleet parked at various spots, including the aforementioned car wash at Vernor Highway and Dix. Fillings for the authentic and tasty tacos range from traditional such as carne asada (steak) to more adventurous such as beef head, but no matter which protein you select, you’ll get a hearty helping (good thing they double up on the tortillas). Pink Flamingo
Every Thursday evening from May through October, this airstream trailer turned mobile restaurant serves farm-to-table, seasonal meals in a Corktown community garden. Bonfires and music add to the festive outdoor party vibes. Diners with vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary considerations, as well as pets and families, are all welcome.
