Brooklyn Street Local /// This Corktown spot run by husband-wife team Jason Yates and Deveri Gifford now hit its third anniversary serving dishes with fresh, locally grown, and organic ingredients. Plates include fluffy omelets teamed with fresh fruit and sandwiches on Avalon bread. Poutine — hand-cut fries, cheese curds, and mushroom or beef gravy — is the tip-off that the proprietors are from Canada. Breakfast poutine comes with a sunny-side-up egg and bacon, and just so no one feels left out, there are vegetarian and vegan versions. Daily specials include two soups and quiche of the day. A chalkboard lists sources for the ingredients, including Brother Nature and its herbs and greens; organic cheese and grass-fed beef from Oliver Farms; Great Lakes coffee; Mindo Chocolate; and Guernsey Dairy ice cream. The patio with its umbrella-shaded tables is especially nice in the summer. 1266 Michigan Ave., Detroit; 313-262-6547. B & L Tues-Fri., Br. Sat.-Sun.
