For fans of Ferndale’s Voyager and Detroit’s Lovers Only, weekday mornings are getting a bit brighter. Restaurateur Eli Boyer, and chefs Jennifer Jackson and Justin Tootla, the trio behind the eateries, are opening their third concept spot, Iggy’s Eggies, this December. Situated off the side of Lovers Only that faces Grand River Avenue, the breakfast walk-up window will be open at 8 a.m. from Monday to Friday for those who are looking to grab a quick yet hearty meal before the sun rises. The Capitol Hill site will offer a dense breakfast menu, including sandwiches like the Little Debbie, which packs corned beef hash and eggs onto grilled slices of rye bread. Their Bodega layers fried bologna, eggs, and cheese with mustard on an onion kaiser roll while the Stay Golden features sprouts, avocado, onion, feta hummus, and eggs on a seedy bun.

The group focused on using Ingredients, like eggs and breakfast meats, that are sourced from local farmers and purveyors. A selection of their baked goods, including Jenn’s biscuits, will be made in-house and sweet and savory grain bowls, as well as RoosRoasted Coffee, are slated for the bill of fare.

“We’re energized to bring this little idea to life, as it’ll serve the downtown market nicely,” Boyer says. “The walk-up window was going to be used as an extension of Lovers Only, but we realized that quick, easy, delicious hot breakfast was something the area was missing. Jenn and Justin have put together an incredible lineup of breakfast sandwiches that will cater to a wide variety of tastes, from healthy to gluttonous and straightforward to whimsical. We’re really looking forward to serving our community every morning.”

Iggy’s Eggies is yet another recent addition to the trio’s list of hotspots; Voyager, opened in March of 2017, gained a foodie following before being named one of Food & Wine’s Best Restaurants of the Year, this past April. Their reservations are often booked days — if not, weeks — out. Lovers Only follows suit, bringing an urban sophistication to the standard hamburger joint, which serves 100% pasture-raised Michigan beef. Iggy’s Eggies’ online ordering and catering program will launch shortly after the opening.
