It’s the never-ending question: Where’s the best spot to eat in Detroit? Get out there and explore for yourself during the third annual Dine Drink Detroit event happening Oct. 1-10. Twenty-five restaurants have teamed up to showcase their best food and cocktail combination for $15, and no reservations are needed.
Event co-founders Kate Williams, former executive chef of Republic in the recently renovated G.A.R. building, and Scott Rutterbush, former partner of Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Co. in Midtown, were both on the forefront of Detroit’s new restaurant scene and used their connections to launch this event.
“At the time I had just opened up Great Lakes Coffee as a partner … and seeing the energy that was building in 2011 was incredible,” Rutterbush says. “But a lot of our friends who didn’t live in the city would say, ‘Hey, where do you guys go?’ ”
Dine Drink Detroit was the answer.
“This event is all about cross promotion within restaurants and getting people to try something new,” Williams says. “It’s them putting their best food and drink combination forward for this price.”
With standbys like Slows BarBQ and St. Cece’s Pub, along with new favorites like Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails and Gold Cash Gold, Dine Drink Detroit’s lineup offers variety for diners this year.
Rutterbush also loves the cooperative attitude. “If you had a question or challenge, if you called another business owner, nine times out of 10 they would step up and help you in some way,” he says.
Dine Drink Detroit helps foster that partnership and exposes out-of-towners to what the city offers.
