THE MEETING HOUSE:
As its name implies, this is a convivial spot with lots of personality and a concise menu of contemporary American dishes offering plenty of variety without being overwhelming or pretentious. Thin-crusted pizzas, an excellent cheeseburger, and dishes such as shrimp and grits, beer-battered rainbow trout with frites, and braised short ribs are served along with wine in tumblers rather than in stemware — a touch that gives the Meeting House its down-to-earth feel. Proprietors are two Beverly Hills Grill alumni. 301 S. Main St., Rochester, 248-759-4825; Br. Sat.-Sun., D Tue.-Sun. $20 H
GREEN ZONE PIZZA:
Green Zone is dedicated to organic ingredients — from the dough for their square-crust pizzas to the blend of cheeses that tops them. And to help protect the environment, they use recycled, compostable, and sustainable materials. Their pizzas are concocted in a conveyor oven that utilizes airflow to cook the pies in just a few short minutes. Patrons choose from a menu and beer-and-wine lists posted on the wall, then step up to the central counter to place their orders. When the food’s ready, it’s brought out by one of the staff. While pizza’s the star of the show, Green Zone also offers tasty sandwiches and salads. This is no conventional pizzeria, but one that adds its own unique spin to the wonderful world of pizza. 17008 Kercheval, Grosse Pointe 313-332-0559; L&D daily. $15 H
