OLD STONE BAR & GRILL:

It may look like what its name suggests, a little spot on the side of the road, but brothers Bill and Marty Pickett, both of whom have Culinary Institute of America diplomas, have surprised a lot of people with the quality of their fare and wine list. Although the atmosphere is casual, the fresh fish and seafood, cut-to-order steaks, and herb-roasted duck, among other sophisticated dishes, tell a different story. 60730 Van Dyke, Washington Township; 586-781-6545. D Mon.-Sat. $15

STEVEN LELLI’S INN ON THE GREEN:

The grandson of the founder of Lelli’s, one of Detroit’s most notable Italian steakhouses, has opened a spinoff of the restaurant that moved to Auburn Hills a number of years ago. The menu of prime steaks, veal dishes, and pastas is pretty much the same here, where entrees are served in a supper-club setting with crystal chandeliers, velvet draperies, and handsomely appointed tables — despite the Copper Creek Golf Course location. No golf shoes here. 27925 Golf Pointe Blvd., Farmington Hills; 248-994-1111. L & D Mon.-Sat., D Sun. $26

Note: Dollar amount is the average entree price.
