OLIVES MEDITERRANEAN:
Most of the menu here has a Lebanese spin, but it also offers such choices as Angus beef burgers and New York strip steaks, all served in a sophisticated setting done by designer Ron Rea, who veiled the ceiling with silky fabric, added handsome chandeliers with black prisms, and upholstered banquettes. Chicken shawarma is one of the standout dishes on a menu that also includes shish kafta, an especially good version of hummus, and lentil-spinach soup.

SALVATORE SCALLOPINI:
The first restaurant/bar to open in quiet Lathrup Village, this, the sixth of the solid local chain, offers a 50-plus seat dining room, a cozily minuscule bar tucked into one corner, and a European-style patio for its menu of pastas, thin-crust pizzas, and basic Italian fare typified by steak Siciliano and veal Parmesan.
