And Michigan overall, for that matter

The first poke-dedicated restaurant is coming to Detroit. Poke, a traditional diced-fish plate native to Hawaii, is taking over Michigan, and more specifically, the fast-casual poke bowl chain Pokē Pokē is establishing their third location in Midtown this April. Located at 4501 Woodward Ave., the newest eatery is taking residency in the short-lived Firehouse Subs. Their first shop in Southfield opened last summer, and was met with instant success, leading to another opening in Farmington. Pokē Pokē has announced two more locations for Troy and Ann Arbor.

While poke commonly calls for raw fish, sea salt, candlenut, and limu, the chain offers vegetable and rice-based bowl options. Their Spider Bowl mixes crab, cucumber, watermelon radish, avocado, seaweed salad, and ginger; a truly winning combination. Pokē Pokē caters to vegetarians as well, as their Aloha Tofu Bowl includes tofu, avocado, cabbage, carrot, edamame, seaweed salad, red onion, ginger, sesame seeds, and citrus ponzu. Patrons will also have the option to customize their own bowls. Spring mix and brown and white rice can be paired with a variety of options, including Hawaiian salmon, chicken, mango, jalapeño, avocado, and seaweed salad. Masago, tempura flakes, and wasabi are just a few of the toppings offered at Pokē Pokē.

The bowls at the poke chain are superfood-focused, meaning all menu items include nutrient-rich ingredients that are beneficial to diners’ well-being. Their most popular dishes include seaweed, packed with iodine, calcium, and vitamins A, K, and B-12, and edamame, which is high in protein, antioxidants, and fiber. Many of Pokē Pokē’s bowls feature salmon, which contains Omega-3 fatty acids, promotes decreased chances of heart disease, and boosts brain activity. Avocado, a popular superfood used in poke bowls, contains monounsaturated fats, which lowers cholesterol. Avocado also boasts nutrients and minerals good for your heart, skin, and eyes.

Pokē Pokē will be open between 10:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily.
