> MARC PEYER, who manages Michael Mina’s SaltWater at the MGM Grand Detroit, is new to the area. “I remember when I came here, I was driving around and I went to a little Chinese restaurant called Carrie Lee Lake Orion. It’s a small family restaurant, but the food was superb. I love Asian food in general. I had the hot-and-sour soup (great taste) followed by Hunan chicken with vegetable fried rice. If someone asks me for a good Chinese restaurant, I would recommend this one.” Although he says he hasn’t had much time to go out to eat, he has also tried Kruse & Muer on Main Street in Rochester “a very nice experience” — not just for the delicious Siesta Key fettuccine with shrimp, scallops, and lobster — but also for the good service.
> LISA CORBIN, dishes up lots of ice-cream treats at her Chocolate Bar Café in Grosse Pointe Woods, so when she and her family go out, she doesn’t order sweets. She and her teenage daughters, Mallory and Maddy, go to the nearby Mack-7 Diner frequently, where the girls have sausage-and-cheese omelets and Corbin gets a club sandwich. “I don’t eat breakfast,” she says. “I like lunch.” On her husband Kim’s birthday, he chose the Original Pancake House for his birthday dinner. “He loves those big country omelets,” she says. When it’s just the two of them, the Corbins go to Trattoria Andiamo for blackened salmon. “We don’t like freeways,” Corbin admits, so the family stays close to home when dining out.
