Heirloom Hospitality, the group behind Townhouse’s two metro Detroit locations and Hour Detroit’s 2019 Restaurant of the Year, Prime + Proper, will open an 11,000-square-foot multi-restaurant concept in Detroit’s Midtown neighborhood this spring. The new eatery, called Sauce, will be inspired by Italian and California cuisine and feature a full-service, sit-down restaurant, an espresso bar, wine bar and shop, and a four-season patio.

Menu items will aim to combine traditional Italian flavors with the fresh, health-focused approach to cooking that’s prominent in Southern California. Dishes at the sit-down restaurant will include Neapolitan pizzas and fresh pasta, as well as other specials that feature in-season produce. “The menu will be ever-changing,” says Jeremy Sasson, CEO and founder of Heirloom Hospitality. “As we anticipate a spring opening, the products peaking in harvest met with Chef Myles McVay’s profound approach to preservation and fermentation will allow for purposeful and honest cooking with deep and bright flavors.”

The wine bar and shop will specialize in options that come from California and Italy, and a selection of Michigan beer will also be available. The coffee bar, named Sauce on Side, will feature lattes, house-made gelato, baked goods, and affogato, which is an Italian dessert made with vanilla gelato and a shot of espresso. And the all-season patio will offer up a selection of sorbet and garden-inspired drinks.

Sasson says the restaurant, located in the former Will Leather Goods Detroit flagship at 4120 Second Ave., is the largest project the restaurant group has launched. The space — designed by Detroit-based firms McIntosh Poris and Parini Design — will feature a Mid-century Modern design with high ceilings, polished copper elements, and terrazzo stonework.

Sauce will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. On weekdays, patrons can grab breakfast at Sauce on Side, and on weekends, brunch will be served in the Sauce full-service restaurant.
