Ann Arbor’s longstanding vegetarian restaurant now has a Detroit satellite. Tucked behind the G.R. N’Namdi Gallery of contemporary art in Midtown, it offers such dishes as black bean and sweet potato quesadillas, arugula and sprout salads, and colorful stir-fries — some vegan as well as vegetarian. The two-room setting has an industrial/urban feel (it was once an auto-repair shop), and the amenities include a full bar, juice bar, and sincere service.

The latest addition to the options along Detroit’s rebounding Park Avenue is a bright little spot offering an array of steak, chicken, and fish tacos and burritos on fresh tortillas from Mexicantown. Drinks include such Mexican soft drinks as Coke made with cane sugar; Mexican beer is on its way. The preparation and cooking are done right there in the high-ceilinged space done with bright red walls and white tile. Big containers of dried chiles aren’t just decorations. They’re ground and used in the house-made salsas and pico de gallo. This spot — with only about 17 seats at tables and high stools — joins Cliff Bell’s, Bucharest Grill, Town Pump Tavern, and Centaur in a district that’s becoming a downtown destination.
