The Detroit-based watch company Shinola and the Detroit Auto Show have announced that they are teaming up on a new timepiece celebrating this year’s auto show, which is running Sept. 13-24, 2023.
Shinola has revealed that the Canfield Speedway Lap 06, a watch that will countdown the days, hours, minutes and even seconds until the Detroit Auto Show, will debut at the Detroit Auto Show Charity Preview — the event’s annual fundraising gala for children’s charities occurring at the Huntington Place.
“We started a watch factory in Detroit 10 years ago because this city knows how to make things,” Awenate Cobbina, the CEO of Shinola, said in a press release. “The Detroit Auto Show celebrates that same grit and know-how; we are proud to partner with this historic and exciting event this year. We will provide a sneak peek of the new Canfield Speedway Lap 06 at the Charity Preview to benefit their children’s charities.”
The Canfield Speedway collection debuted in 2021 to showcase the “golden era of racing” in the ‘50s and ‘60s. The watch features an automatic chronograph and “a vintage racing-inspired tachymeter that measures the speed of a vehicle over the distance traveled.” The Canfield Speedway Lap 06 watch comes with a “44mm brushed stainless steel case and a perforated leather strap.”
The Canfield Speedway Lap 06 watch will debut at the Detroit Auto Show’s Charity Preview on Sept. 15, 2023, alongside “exciting elements” involving the new timepiece and opportunities with Shinola Hotel. Tickets to the Charity Preview are $400 each or $700 a pair. General admission to the public show are $10 for kids, $12 for seniors, and $20 for adults.
