What are the hottest looks this season? A healthy, smooth, glowing complexion and a face with youthful volume and defined cheekbones and chin are always in fashion. Advances in minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures have made it easier, faster, and safer to tweak or transform your appearance. New products, lasers, and other devices add to the array of solutions that can be customized for your specific needs.
Rather than going under the knife, many consumers are opting for the needle. Injections of Botulinum toxins such as Botox, as well as soft tissue fillers, represent more than half of all minimally invasive treatments. Injectables reduce lines, wrinkles, and folds, and add volume to improve a number of facial problem areas, including the lips.
Cosmetic lasers are the go-to tools for correcting specific skin issues or for overall rejuvenation when you want little to no downtime. Lasers can remove unwanted tattoos faster than ever, shrink fat cells to give a more contoured figure, and stimulate follicle cells for thicker, stronger hair.
Whether you want to smooth your lines and wrinkles, reduce sun damage, shrink pores and acne scars, correct pigmentation, or tighten lax skin, there’s a laser procedure that can create the look you desire in less time than you would think.
Spring is a season for renewal. Nonsurgical cosmetic treatments can help you put your best self forward.

Q: What is the latest noninvasive treatment for anti-aging, discoloration, and scarring?
A: FACE is proud to introduce VIVA laser, an all-in-one facial rejuvenation therapy for beautiful, younger- looking skin.
“I love this ‘new kid on the block,’ ” says Holly CaSaroll, founder of the multi award-winning beauty and wellness clinic. “VIVA combines fractional radio frequency and bulk heating to smooth lines and wrinkles, and help repair sun damage. We’re also seeing great results in regard to everything from visible pores, acne scars, and discoloration.”
Bulk heating creates the added benefit of a slight skin-tightening effect. With minimal discomfort and barely any downtime, a series of VIVA treatments are wonderful for someone who wants an overall improvement to their skin or would like to take years off their appearance.
“After laser resurfacing, scars are best treated minimally, with filler. The new FDA-approved Bellafill can fill in fine lines, scars, or any textural irregularities,” CaSaroll adds. “At FACE, we don’t push one particular treatment on anyone. We have 24 different laser and facial technologies, and we choose the appropriate treatment for the individual’s needs, goals, and budget.”

RENEW HAIR & SKIN CENTER
Q: What can I do to prevent hair loss?
A: Renew owners Suzie Meckler and Robin Welford have discovered the science that contributes to the growing population of people experiencing hair loss and thinning, and they also have a solution: healthy hair begins within, starting at the cellular level. Renew’s patented process to stimulate hair growth, which includes Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), is helping to prevent the progression of hair follicle cell damage that occurs daily and leads to hair loss. Follicle cells can be damaged by aging, stress, free radicals in the environment, medications, diseases, and medical conditions such as iron deficiencies and thyroid problems.
European studies suggest LLLT improves the blood flow at the roots and stimulates follicular cells, which can cause the hair to grow in thicker and stronger. FDA-cleared Low Level Laser Therapy — along with a protein-enriched diet, vitamin supplements, and nourishing hair and scalp products — will achieve the optimal outcome.

MYRA DANISH, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Q: What types of laser treatments will give me smoother, healthier skin with no downtime?
A: Having laser facials on a regular basis is the best thing you can do to slow down the aging process, reverse sun damage, and maintain a healthy, glowing complexion, says facial plastic surgeon Dr. Myra Danish.
“In our office we use the Cutera Laser Genesis to smooth the skin, shrink the pores, even out pigmentation and redness, diminish fine-line wrinkles, and regenerate collagen. It also kills bacteria, to help reduce acne. The Cutera Excel V laser has a component for treating vascular skin conditions such as spider veins and rosacea, and a component to correct pigmentation, age spots, and brown spots.”
Noninvasive laser treatments can be done in less than an hour, with minimal discomfort and no downtime.
“We customize the laser treatment based on the patient’s skin during their monthly or recurring sessions,” Dr. Danish says. “Laser facials are cost-effective, provide outstanding results, and are ideal for patients who can’t take time off for a long recovery.”

Q: How can noninvasive lasers help to improve my appearance?
A: Noninvasive laser treatments can often postpone the need for surgical procedures, and can give you very good results without anesthesia, a hospital stay, or downtime, says internal medicine physician Dr. Gina Randhawa.
“Patients who see early signs of aging in the face and neck, such as skin laxity and fine lines and wrinkles, are getting great results with Thermage, a nonsurgical treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to tighten skin, renew facial contours, and stimulate collagen,” Dr. Randhawa explains.
“I also use Zerona, a noninvasive cold laser that painlessly shrinks fat cells, reducing inches of fat and contouring the body as an alternative to invasive surgical liposuction.”

Q: My lip lines really bother me, but I don’t want Botox. Is there another treatment that would help?
A: Lines above the lips are typically due to genetics and to mouth movements as we talk, chew, or purse our lips, says Dr. Kathleen Gilmore, founder of Procerus Skin Care.
“Wrinkles around the mouth, and especially lines above the lips, can give one a prematurely aged appearance and make people appear to be smokers when they’re not,” she says. “We treat the problem primarily with fillers, which provide an instant fix and give a natural-looking result. The new FDA-approved filler, Restylane Silk, has a softer, smoother consistency, and is really nice for those fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth.”
Dr. Gilmore notes that people who have been living with acne scars for years are often unaware that there are treatments to fill in the scars and even out the skin.
“We offer laser procedures, fillers and/or micro-needling,” she says. “Micro-needling involves a pen-like device. At its tip are 12 very fine needles that I use to make tiny punctures in the skin. This induces new collagen production, resulting in as much as a 70 percent improvement.”
At Procerus Skin Care, treatments are personalized and tailored to the individual’s specific needs. Dr. Gilmore adds, “We take the time to listen; we love to answer questions and educate our patients about their skin. Our primary focus is on getting their concerns addressed.”

GROSSE POINTE DERMATOLOGY
Q: What are the latest, unique fillers for facial rejuvenation?
A: The new Restylane Silk is an elegant, FDA-approved filler for smoothing fine lines around the lips and mouth, including the vertical lines above the upper lip that can develop due to heredity, smoking, or animated talking. Restylane Silk also results in a very natural-looking enhancement to the lips. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. David Balle points out that our lips age along with the rest of our face.
“The skin becomes thinner and the lips somewhat deflate, revealing a puckering of fine lines. It’s more noticeable when a woman applies lipstick,” he says. “If you have filler around the mouth and you don’t address the lip itself, it can look out of proportion. Using Restylane Silk, we create a subtle enhancement, not over-filled lips that look unnatural.”
Dr. Balle uses Juvéderm Voluma XC, the first FDA-approved filler to correct age-related volume loss in the mid-cheek.
“With aging, the bone, tissues, and deeper fat in the ‘apple’ of the cheek slowly diminish and deteriorate. This creates sagging of the skin and contributes to jowling and hollows,” he explains. “When injected, Voluma lifts and pulls back the cheek in a natural way, restoring youthful volume and curvature.”
A nationally certified trainer, Dr. Balle teaches other physicians the proper, best, and safe usage of fillers.

Q: What is the quickest, most effective way to have my tattoos removed?
A: In the past, people with “tattoo-regret” had to endure numerous laser sessions that were sometimes ineffective at removing all of their body art. Today, the revolutionary PicoSure laser makes tattoo removal faster and easier, with a quicker recovery and greater results.
“This is the most exiting advancement in tattoo removal in 20 years,” says board-certified dermatologist Dr. Eric Seiger. “The PicoSure laser fires one-thousand times faster than any other laser we’ve used before. It fires at a trillionth of a second — a picosecond. When it hits the ink, it blasts the tattoo pigment into tiny, dust-like particles that are easily absorbed and eliminated by the body.”
Unlike older lasers, the PicoSure is very successful at removing previously treated tattoos and difficult ink colors such as blues and greens. “Because the laser is so fast, we can erase tattoos in about half the number of treatments required by traditional lasers,” Dr. Seiger says. “Depending on the size of the tattoo, a treatment can take just a few minutes. Some people see a 75 percent reduction of their tattoo in the very first treatment session.”
Don’t go through life with a tattoo that no longer suits you. Call for a complimentary consultation with Dr. Seiger for your tattoo removal.

DR. MICHAEL GRAY AND SKIN DEEP SPA
Q: What type of laser treatment will give me great results with minimal to no downtime?
A: Dr. Michael Gray is known for bringing the latest cosmetic technology to Detroit. We’re proud to offer HALO, the first-of-its- kind, FDA-approved hybrid fractional laser that combines two different types of treatments in one — renewing the epidermal outer layer of the skin and rejuvenating the deeper dermal tissues at the same time.
“You can wear makeup the next day. You’re getting the results of a much more aggressive laser treatment with basically no downtime,” says Rena Gardner, co-owner of Skin Deep Spa. “HALO eliminates years of sun damage and aging. It softens fine lines and wrinkles, reduces large pores and acne scars, and improves skin tone, texture, and tightening. It’s a fountain of youth treatment.”
HALO is safe for use on all skin types, tones, and ages — and, unlike other lasers, it can be used on any part of the body.
“The laser reduces sun-damaged cells beneath the skin layers that lead to wrinkles and brown spots,” Gardner explains. “We use HALO as an age-eraser, and to prevent aging.”
