The Petoskey Area is a Michigan Treasure
Ready for a vacation with more to do than hit the beach? Then come visit what has been called a Michigan treasure: the Petoskey area of northern Michigan.
Whether you like strolling the soft sand looking for Petoskey stones, diving into crystal-clear Lake Charlevoix, or catching a million-dollar sunset over the lake, this is the place to be. But what makes the Petoskey Area even more special is all there is to do when the beach towel has been put away. Our resort communities of Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Bay Harbor, Boyne City, Alanson, and Walloon Lake offer a whole vacation full of things to do.
Awesome shopping and dining Charming shops and restaurants help visitors remember why vacation is so much fun. You’ll find dozens of unique stores to browse, and there are dining options to satisfy most any foodie.
Victorian charm The Bay View Association, with its nearly 500 Victorian structures, has earned the designation of National Historic Landmark. A summer lineup of concerts, lectures, and classes adds to its appeal.
Hiking and biking The Petoskey area is home to some of the most beautiful hiking and biking trails imaginable, some of which hug the shoreline and offer incredible views.
World-class golf Take your pick from more than a dozen courses, from nationally rated layouts to economical options. Their beauty and quality is often written about in the likes of Golf Magazine and Golf Digest.
Wineries The Petoskey area’s wineries may be small, but they have a lot of heart and personality. Ten locations combine to create the Bay View Wine Trail. Sip, sample, and maybe take in a Wine & Paint session amongst the beautiful scenery.
Stay awhile Choose from quaint country inns, luxurious condominiums, and modern full-service hotels. For more information or lodging help, call our Visitors Bureau at 800-845-2828, or visit PetoskeyArea.com.
SUGAR RUSH
Guest Information:
www.ohio.org/donut
What’s the craziest, most decadent donut flavor you can dream up? Raspberry cheesecake? S’mores? Banana pudding? You can devour these and more specially crafted donuts at nine mom-and-pop shops on the Butler County Donut Trail, located about 20 minutes north of Cincinnati.
To start the day off, try the sugary perfection of the sour cream cake donut at the shop of Stan the Donut Man. The second stop, the Oxford Doughnut Shoppe, has a charming, small-town atmosphere. Fall in love with Oxford’s melt-in-your-mouth, hand-cut red velvet cake donut, kettle-fried and dipped in sweet glaze.
At Kelly’s Bakery, it’s a sure bet that you’ll have trouble resisting the s’mores donut — a fresh yeast donut topped with chocolate, mini marshmallows, crushed graham crackers, and even more chocolate. Another customer favorite is their soft yeast donut studded with Fruity Pebbles cereal.
Continuing along the donut trail, you won’t want to miss stopping at Jupiter Coffee & Donuts for a delicious sprinkled donut, and although it may sound a bit odd, don’t pass up the maple bacon yeast donuts at Mimi’s Donuts & Bakery — yes, they’re yummy, and they’re topped with an entire piece of bacon! The smell alone is divine.
Be sure to download and complete a Donut Trail passport to claim your free Donut Trail T-shirt, and don’t forget to take pictures at the Donut Trail selfie station. The shops are all located in small towns that exude a welcoming feel and are within an hour’s drive of one another.
A few tips: Split the trail into two days, don’t forget to have your passport stamped at each shop or you won’t get your free T-shirt, and bring along someone you care about to share the experience and take pictures — you’ll want to share these memories on social media using the hashtag #Donut Trail!
