Few things bring people together like holiday traditions – the good, the bad, the ugly… sweaters. Go Comedy! Improv Theater in Ferndale love bringing people together, almost as much as they love skewering the holidays, an annual tradition of their own, with year after year of hilarious sketch comedy revues. From Miracle on 9 Mile Street in 2009, to North by North Pole, The Worst Noel and countless others*, Go Comedy! and its team of actors, writers and comedians come together once a year to give the gift of laughter… and this year is no different!
Opening November 26 and running through December 23, Go Comedy! presents their 11th holiday revue – The Santa of the Opera directed by GO’s co-owner, Tommy LeRoy and starring Anna Imesch Reid, Cari Sue Murphy, Doug Kolbicz, Daniel Jackson, Alex Bergmans and Erik Heilner. This veteran sketch comedy cast will use every comedic tool they can find (songs, sketches, movies, puppets?), to provide a wild night full of unexpected takes on the holidays we all know and love.
While it’s not a show for the whole family (sorry kids), your cool teenagers will love it. It’s also a great outing for a company’s office party, a night out with friends, or even a first date (knowing what a person finds funny is a pretty solid indicator of compatibility). Plus Downtown Ferndale is loaded with great bars and restaurants, so you only need to make one stop and you can eat, drink and be merry.
And, if you find the holiday season a little too overwhelming, why not treat yourself when it’s over by coming out to Go Comedy! on New Year’s Eve. Two shows, food, drink specials and prizes (including a coveted forever ticket to the theater) make New Year’s at GO another fine tradition you don’t want to miss.
Since opening in 2008, Go Comedy has routinely been named Best Comedy Club by the people and the local press. From their most popular show The Go Comedy! Allstar Showdown (think Whose Line Is It Anyways?) to their annual sketch shows and a wide variety of other comedy programming, Go Comedy can “make your day any night of the week.”
Born from the ashes of Second City, Detroit, Go Comedy! Is a charming little theater with huge dreams. With a full bar, loads of delightful details (check out the bathroom sinks) and free parking, Go Comedy! offers a one of a kind night out. In fact, since many shows are improvised, every night is truly unique. The improv shows rely on audience suggestions, but guests are never singled out if they don’t want to be. So if your jam is laughing from the shadows, you’ll feel right at home, but if you harbor a secret desire to be a star, you just might get your chance. Plus every Sunday night, there’s an open improv jam, where anyone can get on stage and perform.

If you’re lucky enough to be here the second weekend of August, check out The Detroit Improv Festival, one of the nation’s best improv festivals with performers from across North America (Past years have included Paul F. Tompkins, Rachel Dratch, Tim Robinson, Sam Richardson, Keegan Michael Key, Nyima Funk and many more).
Go Comedy! Improv Theater is located at 261 East Nine Mile Road in Ferndale, MI. For 13 years, Go Comedy! has offered the finest in improv and sketch comedy, Go U! The Improv Academy training center, road shows, classes and workshops for private parties, corporations and schools.
*Seven other shows (pretty easily counted in retrospect)
