As Detroit continues to boom, new people arrive every day to participate in the excitement of the city. However, Detroit natives are noticing too and taking advantage of the great opportunities to buy homes within the city.
Ricqel Smith, an engineer working in the auto-industry, was looking for a permanent home and shifted from renter to homeowner while staying in the same upscale unit at Great Lakes Tower.
“It feels good to be a condo owner and part of the Detroit resurgence,” Smith said. “As a native Detroiter, I wanted to stay in the City and Great Lakes Tower’s location along the riverfront is perfect.”
Located just 3.4-miles from the new Little Caesars Arena and 1.9-miles from the Renaissance Center, Great Lakes Tower residents are a short commute to work or Uber ride to their favorite spots within the city. The building is just steps away from the Detroit Riverwalk and a quick bike ride to the Rivertown Warehouse District, Belle Isle Park, Chene Park and downtown Detroit.
“It’s easy to see my friends and family in the city,” added Smith. “I’m still exploring the area, but when it’s nice out, I hop on my bike or just go for a walk along the riverfront. Plus, the Atwater Brewery is right up the street and it’s a great spot to meet my friends. So far building’s location is unbeatable, I love the proximity to the booming downtown area without actually being right downtown. I work from home and being able to access the city this easily is a great perk.”
Great Lakes Tower’s location means residents are able to leave their vehicles at home and still have great access to everything Detroit offers. The building houses a bike storage and maintenance room further adding to its appeal amongst bike commuters and cycling enthusiasts. In addition, you do not even need to own a bike to bike-commute to and from Harbortown. There is a MOGO bike sharing station one block away at Mt. Elliott Park.
The City of Detroit recently granted Great Lakes Tower owners a tax abatement in the form of a Neighborhood Enterprise Zone designation.
“I’m excited about having the tax lock for the next 12 years,” Ricqel said. “I would have chosen this place with or without the NEZ, but it is a real bonus to have my taxes lower and locked in for the foreseeable future. It’s a significant savings when compared to the price to purchase a unit elsewhere.”
Great Lakes Tower gives residents the option to enjoy every facet of downtown Detroit when they choose, and still have the option to pick enjoying the outdoors and a nice quiet afternoon on the Harbortown grounds. With Harbortown’s fantastic location and amenities, residents will be able to simplify their lifestyle and enjoy everything Detroit has to offer.
Great Lakes Tower is located at 250 East Harbortown Drive in Detroit, Michigan. Units start in the mid $200,000’s.
