Hamilton’s, nestled on the ground floor of the Godfrey Hotel Detroit on Michigan Avenue in Corktown, pays titular homage to Hamilton Carhartt, founder of the Carhartt Clothing brand that originated its brand in the same historic neighborhood. With its city vibe and accessible American fare, the restaurant brings modern sophistication to the vibrant Corktown dining and bar scene, offering an updated take on classic dishes in an inspiring and elevated, urban cool contemporary atmosphere.
Hamilton’s accommodates a diverse culinarian clientele. Its flavorful menus include curated coffee, artistically crafted cocktails, innovative appetizers and main dishes, and house-made desserts sourced from high-quality ingredients. Dishes are beautifully served by attentive, welcoming staff in the approachable yet elegant, setting.
Think gorgeous sculptural lighting, warm wood tones meeting textured metal, artistically curated for an elevated experience – with street-level views of vibrant Corktown Detroit. Hotel restaurants can find themselves choosing between accommodating a wide-ranging clientele or sitting often empty as a weekend-only dining room destination. However, Hamilton’s is geared towards being accommodating without compromising.
Hamilton’s enters the popular Corktown dining scene with breakfast, lunch and dinner served seven days a week, with a menu that reaches high and succeeds.
The décor provides a warm urban feeling without the cold sterility that often accompanies modernistic design. It is as welcoming for a romantic dinner for two as for a celebratory party, with a dining room that can accommodate 90 guests presently, and 38 more on its outdoor terrace on Michigan Ave once weather allows.
“We wanted an atmosphere where the local community would feel as welcome as the hotel guests,” says, Aaron Black, General Manager. “Set in the center of the vibrant and walkable Corktown neighborhood, the restaurant’s Michigan Ave street entrance is separate from the hotel and designed to be welcoming to the community.”
The seasonal, classic-American menu features local ingredients, from its craft cocktails (You can’t get any more seasonal or local than the spring-inspired “Garden of Daisies” with Valentine’s White Blossom vodka as its base), to its rotating desserts. A recent sampling of the latter included a “creamsicle” confection, and a swoon-worthy decadent chocolate cake.
Though poultry, fish and beef are prominently offered in the appetizers, soups, salad and main dishes — from a tuna tartar app and short rib barley soup to Halibut fish and chips and filet mignon with green peppercorn sauce — vegan and vegetarian options have a respectable and well-thought-out presence from its “Everything” Biscuits with Umami butter appetizer to a Pesto caseracce with fava beans main dish. Many of the menu items are also gluten-free.
The restaurant, a collaboration between Detroit-based Chickpea Hospitality and international real estate and hospitality investor Oxford Capital Group rounds out the 227-room hotel’s offerings, which also features the indoor/outdoor IO rooftop lounge with expansive views of downtown Detroit and Corktown, which serves cocktails and bites; and a 5,100 square-foot ballroom that can accommodate events of more than 300 guests, which is quickly becoming the go-to venue for corporate events.
“The restaurant will serve a classic and creative breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week and will be a destination for everyone in Corktown from locals to those visiting for business or pleasure, “says Chef Nyle Flynn, Executive Chef, The Godfrey Hotel Detroit. Like Carhartt, Hamilton’s is destined to be a classic.
Hamilton’s has quickly become a regular dining experience for the neighborhood and for tourists making their way into the city for a true modern Detroit experience.
