Most parents fear bringing their child to the dentist for their initial visit, many because of their own previous poor dental experiences. Golnick Pediatric & Adolescent Dentistry proactively treats infants, children and young adults to maintain a healthy smile and instill a positive attitude toward dental health. When children feel comfortable, confident and at ease at the dentist, dental treatment is far easier for them and their parents. Research and studies have shown that children who have healthy teeth and gums when younger, generally have low risk for cavities and periodontal disease in their lifetime. Eating a healthy diet, drinking water, and maintaining good daily oral hygiene is paramount to setting the seeds for a lifetime of good dental health. The first dental visit, recommended at age one, will help establish a dental home and offer recommendations on preventing decay, ensure proper hygiene techniques, habit cessation and what to do when a traumatic injury occurs.

Our motto, “We are the Pediatricians of Dentistry,” reflects the mission of our doctors and staff to address any issues related to the mouth of a child. Does your child see a Pediatrician or an Internist? As Board-certified Pediatric Dentists, all of our providers have additional education and training in growth and development, child psychology and pediatric pain management. From the first visit, we assess the developing dentition and facial anatomy, including airway, feeding, and orthodontic considerations. Those youngsters who have restrictive tissues and have feeding and/or latching issues are treated with a laser to promote improved range of motion of the tongue, lips and cheeks which aid in feeding, sleeping and speech. By addressing these issues early, the child grows more favorably and avoids more invasive and longer treatment when older. It is almost inevitable that children will sustain an injury to their teeth or mouth when learning to walk, riding a bike or playing sports. Early and timely treatment may save a tooth and prevent injury to the developing dentition. Our offices provide after hours emergency care and a doctor is always available for treatment or just peace of mind.

When a child does have a cavity or fractured tooth, our office will deliver care in the simplest and most comfortable means possible. Nowadays, we may be able to avoid the use of injections and treat with minimally invasive techniques, using compounded topicals and lasers. We only use “white” restorative materials and offer cosmetic alternatives if possible. For more extensive treatment, our office offers nitrous oxide, oral sedation, IV sedation and general anesthesia options. Ultimately, our goal is to deliver optimal care with the least amount of anxiety for the patient, knowing that a genuine smile is a reflection of happiness. The greatest reward for our team is being able to observe our patients’ matriculation from childhood to adulthood and experiencing their evolving personalities and achievements in the classroom and their extracurricular activities while smiling with confidence and high self-esteem.
