While children may not be able to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him what they want for Christmas this year — even Old Saint Nick needs to practice social distancing — local kids can still get in a visit with Kriss Kringle. Somerset Collection is reinventing holiday traditions with a new lineup of friendly-family activities that include socially distanced photos with Santa and colorful crafts.
Santa will make his debut at the Troy shopping center on Dec. 2. Situated in his holiday castle on the first floor of the north side of the mall, guests will be able to get a photo with him from a safe social distance. Guests can get six images for $30, and those interested in getting their picture taken must make a reservation online. Photographs will be emailed to families.
Also for kids, Somerset Collection is unveiling its Holiday Wander experience on Nov. 28. Set up on the third floor of the north side of the mall, the attraction will feature colorful set designs decorated with candy canes, snowflakes, and other seasonal motifs. For an entrance fee of $10, guests are welcome to take selfies with the décor and color a mural designed by artist Jon Burgerman. For an additional $10 fee, kids can also make a craft, such as decorating a journal, tote, or pencil case. All proceeds will benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind.
Along with these activities, the shopping center is offering enhanced concierge services and other amenities this holiday season. Collection to Cars, a curbside pickup service that Somerset launched in 2016, is expanding this year. Twenty parking spaces will be dedicated to curbside pickups at the main entrances at the mall’s north and south sides.
Somerset is also launching a new home delivery service called From Our Stores to Your Doors. Shoppers who live within 60 miles of the mall can schedule a delivery from any of the mall’s shops through the program.
Additionally, holiday ambassadors will welcome guests at every entrance of the mall and be on hand to help with requests such as carrying bags to cars. Personal stylists will also be available to help guests shop for gifts, and Somerset Collection Studio — located at 33 John R St. in Detroit — is launching a locker delivery system so shoppers can have their purchases delivered to a locker downtown.
