Quicken Loans’ 14th annual Meridian Winter Blast will return to Campus Martius on January 26, coinciding with the final weekend of the 2018 North American International Auto Show.

“Winter Blast has been a downtown winter time favorite for several years and we are excited to incorporate this signature weekend of events into Winter in Detroit,” says Helen Johnson, vice president of strategic investments for Quicken Loans Community Investment Fund.

While in its 14th year, the annual festival will feature multiple new attractions, including City Slopes, two skiing snow hills in the middle of Cadillac Square, presented by Boyne Highlands and Boyne Mountain. The attraction features one hill for beginners and another for experienced skiers.

Also new this year is the Winter Blast Polar Plunge, benefiting the Special Olympics of Michigan. “Plungers” will have access to a heated changing area and will receive a free hot chocolate to warm up. Registration for the Polar Plunge is available here.

Two stages will support new musical talent such as country rock from the Holly Berndt Band and alternative rock from Eva Under Fire. Returning acts include Detroit favorite Thornetta Davis and rock band The Reefermen. A third stage will offer family fun such as juggling acts, magic, and science shows during the day, and acoustic performances in the evening.

Patrons can also enjoy the return of the Meridian Winter Slide, Zipline Adventure, and the Food Truck Rally featuring an array of local cuisine.

Admission to the 2018 Meridian Winter Blast is $3 per person or three canned goods/non-perishable items. Food donations for admission can be done at select Chemical Bank locations starting January 17 through January 26.
