If you’re looking to celebrate the holiday season this weekend, Royal Oak’s Holiday Glow event is in full-swing and has a list of things that is sure to put you in a festive mood.
Beginning last night, the three-day celebration on Fifth Avenue (East of Washington Street) feats traditional activities like a photoshoot with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, along with their team of live reindeer, caroling, writing letters to Santa, and horse-drawn carriage rides throughout the snow-covered streets.
The popular 15-minute carriage rides can accompany up to six people —four adults and two children —while the Christmas carriages can seat 18 individuals, large enough to carry all of your friends and family. Not included in the price of the ticket is group caroling; an essential holiday touch.
For those looking to stay warm, there will be a heated tent on Fifth Avenue that features a winter market and bar offering hot beverages and music.
Each day, ice-carvers will shave a block of ice into a life-size rendition of Santa’s sleigh and accompanying reindeer.
A breathtaking, holiday show will take place at night, with tremendous hot-air balloons ascending into the sky, over the city of Royal Oak. After, pilots will execute a synchronized flame-flicker performance and allow children to pull the rope to the hot air balloons’ burners.
The festival concludes with the Cookie Crawl on Saturday, Dec. 8. Participants will have the opportunity to “crawl” throughout Royal Oak, collecting holiday cookies and treats from bakeries and restaurants around the city.
At the check-in location, behind the heated tent on Fifth Avenue, crawlers will receive a Holiday Glow commemorative tin container to collect their goods. This is certainly the best way to binge on holiday baked treats; no excuse required!
