The Motown Museum, home of the famous Hitsville U.S.A. and Motown Records, announced on Monday that it has received a $500,000 grant from the Hudson-Webber Foundation to assist in its upcoming expansion.
“With our shared values and a mission to create a thriving, sustainable Detroit, we are grateful for the Hudson-Webber Foundation to offer its support as we grow the Museum and continue to share with the world the Motown legacy that was born right here in our community,” said Robin R. Terry, CEO and chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Motown Museum in a release.
The museum announced in late 2016 that it would massively expand the space from a single house to a 50,000 square-foot facility, complete with interactive exhibits, a performance theater, recording studios, and more. The campus will be designed and built around the original Hitsville U.S.A. house.
The Hudson-Webber foundation joins a growing list of organizations supporting the $50 million renovation. In November, the museum announced Ford and UAW-Ford would commit $6 million to the project, and in September, the The Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation has gifted $1 million.
