Full Lotus Yoga, which opened in 2013 on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe, will launch a second studio space in Detroit’s New Center neighborhood this fall. The 2,650 square-foot-studio will occupy the third floor at 6505 Woodward Ave., a mixed-use building owned by The Barbat Organization, and be geared toward beginner and advanced yogis alike.
The studio, which focuses on an alignment-based vinyasa practice, offers classes and workshops that include slow flow, candlelight, and hot vinyasa. Students can also sign up for guided yogic breathing and meditation as well as flow sessions for renewing and restoring the body. Full Lotus Yoga also partners with the world-renowned YogaWorks to provide highly-ranked 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training. New students are eligible for a free first class with a Michigan ID and a 30-day trial period for $30.
Owner Liz DeFour says her classes are accessible to all levels. “Even if you’re a more advanced student, you’ll find something valuable in the practice,” she says. “And if you’re a new student, you’ll feel welcome, and like you’re able to learn in the class without feeling overwhelmed.”
DeFour is thrilled about her studio’s upcoming expansion into the city’s New Center neighborhood. She loves everything that’s happening in Detroit right now, and says she thinks Full Lotus Yoga will be a good fit to serve the flourishing community.
Representatives with Southfield-based Farbman Group, the real estate company handling the studio’s lease, agree. “Full Lotus Yoga is an excellent fit for the active life, work, play environment that we see consistently emerging within Detroit,” says Farbman Group CEO Andrew V. Farbman.
In addition to the studio, the mixed-use building at 6505 Woodward Ave. is undergoing a full renovation to include Lake Trust Credit Union, a restaurant space, and offices. For more information about Full Lotus Yoga, visit fulllotusyoga.net.
