Hour Detroit, long known for honoring outstanding health care professionals, is proud to introduce a new award celebrating the exceptional contributions of nursing professionals in metro Detroit. Nominated by their supervisors and selected by a distinguished panel of judges, the winner and finalists will be announced and recognized at the Oct. 23 Excellence in Care Soirée at The Colony Club in Detroit and featured in the December issue of Hour Detroit.

Nominations must be made by a nurse’s supervisor, who will describe the nurse’s excellence in several areas.

Criteria for nomination:

  • Be a currently practicing RN or LPN (full- or part-time) in metro Detroit
  • Have at least 3 years of nursing experience
  • Have made a significant impact on patient care
  • Exemplify the highest level of professionalism
  • Consistently go above and beyond the call of duty
  • Demonstrate excellence across all areas of health care
  • Show meaningful commitment to the community where they work or live

Important information:

  • Nomination must be made by a nurse’s supervisor.
  • Hour Detroit’s judging committee reserves the right to decline a nomination if the nominee does not meet the basic criteria.
  • Nominations must be received by June 30, 2025.
  • $75 per nomination for 1-3 entries, $65 per nomination for 4+ entries.
  • The Nurse of the Year and finalists will be notified of their selection. We will confirm that they understand that by accepting this honor, their name and image will appear in Hour Detroit and on our website and social media platforms. Event details will be provided at this time, as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can submit a nomination?
Only a nurse’s direct supervisor may submit a nomination. Self-nominations or submissions from peers, patients, or family members are not eligible.

Who is eligible to be nominated?
Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) who currently work full-time or part-time in metro Detroit are eligible.

What criteria are used to evaluate nominees?
Judges are evaluating the criteria based on the submissions. Criteria includes the nurses’ impact on patient care, professional excellence, community commitment, and demonstration of going above and beyond in their role.

Can I nominate more than one nurse?
Yes. You may nominate multiple nurses. The fee is $75 for up to three nominations and $65 per nominee for four or more.

Is there a deadline to submit nominations?
Yes. All nominations must be received by June 30, 2025.

When will finalists be announced?
Finalists will be announced on August 31, 2025. They will be contacted directly and will receive two tickets to attend the Excellence in Care Soirée.

When will the Nurse of the Year be announced?
The winner of Hour Detroit’s Nurse of the Year will be revealed live on stage at the Excellence in Care Soirée on October 23, 2025, at The Colony Club in Detroit.

What happens after I submit a nomination?
Submissions are reviewed by an independent judging panel. If your nominee is selected as a finalist, we will reach out to confirm their participation and ensure they are comfortable being featured in Hour Detroit magazine and on digital and social platforms.

What if my nominee is selected but cannot attend the event?
While attendance is highly encouraged, absence does not disqualify them from being honored. Please notify us if attendance is not possible.

Is the nomination fee refundable?
No. All nomination fees are non-refundable.

How will I know my submission was received?
You will receive a confirmation email once your nomination and payment have been successfully submitted.
