What goes around comes around, and period-correct haircuts and straight razor shaves are back. But many men grow “Movember” mustaches in November to raise awareness of health issues. Here are places to keep the ’stache groomed — or to reclaim that clean-shaven look.

The Berkley Chop Shop

Specializing in straight razor shaves and period correct haircuts like the Elvis or flat-top with fenders, this place prides itself on the culture and tradition of being a neighborhood barbershop. Both men and women grace their antique barber chairs for customized cuts and a personal experience.

Trim Barber House

Best known for their straight razor shaves, this barbershop caters exclusively to gentlemen looking for their own Mad Men-esque makeover. There’s plasma TV, billiards, darts — and even a bulldog to greet you. Packages combine a shave, a massage, and a shoe shine.

Standard Barber Co.

Walk through the red door and up to the second floor for a full-service experience — including beard trims. Steve Economy and Matt Temkin knew that Brooklyn wasn’t the only place that appreciated a classic 1920s barber experience. Hipsters, grandfather types, and everyone in between fit right in here.

R. Collective Salon

Brothers Tony and Scott Raymaker and Amanda Cerullo’s salon caters to men and women. Men’s specialties include hot lather neck shaves and hand-tailored haircuts. Reclaimed wood and modern elements create an inviting space, and to support “Movember,” all men’s styling products are 30 percent off.

Fellow Barber

Co-owner and Detroit native William Tigertt plans to set up shop this December in the Shinola complex near the Wayne State University campus. Fellow Barber is a Brooklyn-based collective of traditional barbershops and apothecaries with locations in New York and San Francisco.

Taylor & Colt

This “barber spa” that got its start in Toronto is planning two area franchises before the end of the year. The shops will have flat screen TVs, complimentary beverages, newspapers, and more. A Birmingham location is also supposed to be in the works.
