Hour Detroit readers have many interests. Not only are you avid news readers and history enthusiasts, but you also love sports. Since we’re in the thick of March, it only makes sense to put those interests together to create Motown Showdown: A Detroit Sports Moments Bracket.
Similar to another major bracket getting a lot of attention right now, Motown Showdown features four regions, with each region represented by one of the four main professional sports teams in Detroit: The Pistons, Red Wings, Tigers, and Lions. Within each region are eight of the biggest moments to take place within that region/team’s history. These moments range from classic championship teams/eras to jaw-dropping plays and everywhere in between.
When seeding these moments, championships/eras received priority seeding, and their seed was selected via a randomizer. Once those seeds were determined, remaining moments within a region were also seeded via a randomizer.
What you have before you are 32 memorable moments battling it out to be named the quintessential moment in Detroit sports history, which will be unveiled on April 6. Will there be upsets? Maybe, but that’s up to you.
From now through April 5, you’ll have the chance to vote once per day for your favorite sports moments. Here is a breakdown in when each voting round will take place:
- March 16-20: First Round
- March 21-25: Second Round
- March 26-30: Third Round
- March 31-April 2: Fourth Round
- April 3-5: Championship Round
