Detroit-based singer and songwriter, George Montrelle, has established a maturing career built from genuine connection, versatility, and musical tradition. At 33, Montrelle represents a modern Detroit artist—one who bridges soul, pop, and R&B with subtle influences of rock and hip-hop, creating performances that feel both timeless and contemporary.
Montrelle’s sound reflects the rhythm of the city itself. Warm, expressive, and groove-driven, his renditions are shaped by a distinct vocal tone, and an instinctive sense of the selections that lets emotion linger long after the final note fades. Whether performing in intimate listening spaces or energetic public crowds, his approach remains focused on presence, clarity, and engagement.
His professional journey began while studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Commercial Songwriting at the Detroit Institute of Music Education, in partnership with Metropolitan State University of Denver. During his studies, Montrelle received office placements and instructor referrals performing as cover entertainment, gaining firsthand experience in live music settings, while understanding over time that adaptability and professionalism can shape a sustainable music career.
Today, Montrelle works primarily as a solo singing guitarist, offering live entertainment for public venues as well as private bookings for corporations, organizations, and social events. His performances feature melodic, soulful vocals paired with resonant acoustic guitar, providing an enjoyable atmosphere that suits a wide range of environments.

Drawing from Motown, classic hits, and popular songs across multiple decades, Montrelle curates live sets that honor legacies, while remaining accessible and current. His ability to reinterpret familiar songs with authenticity has made him a consistent presence throughout Detroit’s live music and hospitality scenes.
Over the years, Montrelle has performed at notable locations including Willis Show Bar, Aretha’s Jazz Café, The Magic Bag, and The Westin. His work also extends into Detroit-area restaurants and lounges such as Fishbones in Greektown, Bar Verona, and Verona Inspired Italian at the Cambria Hotel.
Beyond venue performances, Montrelle has appeared at major events including South by Southwest in Austin, The Best of Detroit, Savor Detroit, the D500 conference series, and the City of Southfield’s Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute. These opportunities highlight both his adaptability and his ability to connect with diverse audiences on larger stages. Montrelle is said to be both consistently “flexible” and “personable” to work with.

Montrelle’s experience extends beyond live performance. His work includes live band entertainment, original shows, co-writing, audio engineering, and voiceover and audiobook projects. He also teaches music theory, guitar, songwriting, and vocal performance, sharing his knowledge with students at various stages of their development.
Through every role he takes on, George Montrelle continues to contribute to Detroit’s evolving culture. Grounded in tradition yet open to growth, his path reflects a commitment to craft, connection, and the enduring energy of live music.
