From Thursday, October 29 through Sunday, November 1, 2026, Youmacon comes to Huntington Place and turns downtown Detroit into a different world with four days of anime, gaming, cosplay, music, and Japanese pop culture. The convention falls on Halloween weekend, and we’ve matched the vibes with this year’s theme: Spirits & Shadows. As Michigan’s largest anime experience returns to the heart of the city, it pulls in fans from across the country and around the world.
A Weekend Built for Everyone
Youmacon has come a long way since 2005. Last year it drew 14,000 fans, and it now ranks among the largest conventions of its kind anywhere. With programming packed into every corner of Huntington Place, there is guaranteed to be something for you at this event.
The Vendor Hall Marketplace and Artist Alley put more than 300 vendors, artists, and independent makers under one roof, selling everything from collectibles and fandom merch to original art and handmade finds you will not see anywhere else. Cosplayers own the halls all weekend with elaborate builds, meetups, and photoshoots, while the gaming hall runs free play, arcade classics, tabletop, and tournaments late into the night. Between the concerts, panels, workshops, and community meetups, Detroit doesn’t sleep during Youmacon.
More Than a Convention
For the people behind it, Youmacon has always been about connection. “Youmacon is a celebration of creativity, culture, and connection,” said Eric Gaiser, Youmacon’s chairman. “It’s so much more than a convention. It’s a community.” That spirit carries into how the event gives back.
Through its annual Charity Ball and partnership with Extra Life, part of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Youmacon has donated more than $20,000 over the past two years, with this year’s proceeds supporting Corewell Health Children’s in Royal Oak.
New for 2026, the convention is honoring the city’s first responders with complimentary weekend badges for Detroit police, firefighters, and EMT personnel. Youmacon is also teaming up with the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit and Ikebana International on a cultural exchange, a nod to the Japanese art and traditions at the roots of the fandom.
