Metro Detroit’s restaurant and retail scene is booming with something new seemingly cropping up every week. This list will help keep you up-to-date on the latest additions to the local shopping and dining scene — be sure to check back often as we’ll be adding to it regularly.
Breadless
- Address: Next to the Panera Bread across from Rochester High School, Rochester
- Expected to open: TBD
This Eastside eatery where greens are the star of the show is expanding beyond the borders of Detroit into the suburbs. A new location will be opening in Rochester with the same great bread-free sandwiches including Jerk City Chicken, Chardi B, Spicy Chick(pea), and others; eatbreadless.com.
Brine Oyster House
- Address: 15033 Kercheval Ave., Grosse Pointe Park
- Expected to open: Early August 2023
Chamberlain Hospitality — the group behind Red Crown, LeRouge Boulangerie, and Brick’s Pizzeria — are working on their third project: This 3,800-square-foot “tide-to-table” oyster house. Expect a raw board with “customizable sea-cuterie,” along with oyster shooters, entrees including steak & frites, fried chicken and othe sandwiches, burgers, and dessert. ROOST Apartment Hotel
- Address: 1265 Washington Blvd., Detroit
- Expected to open: June 1, 2023
The Book Tower is not taking reservations for stays at ROOST Apartment Hotel — Detroit’s first “high-design extended stay concept” — for as early as June 1. ROOST offers 118 guest rooms in the heard to Detroit.
Human-I-T
- Address: On Seven Mile Road in Detroit
- Expected to open: June 16, 2023
The locally-based nonprofit will open its first physical location that offers free and discounted computers, low-cost internet plans, and digital skills training so that low-income Detroiters can access these services.
MEX Restaurant
- Address: 6675 Telegraph Road, Bloomfield Hills
- Expected to open: Spring 2023
This Bloomfield Hills staple has been in business for almost a decade and recently underwent a renovation by designer StreetSense to give it a more contemporary feel. The revamped Mexican eatery will feature an indoor greenhouse structure with real plants inside along with exciting new eats by Chef Jose Gomez. New items include house-made tortillas, chorizo empanadas, and corn-coconut tamales. Old favorites will still be available, too; mexbloomfield.com.
Patty & Press
- Address: 42967 Woodward Ave., Bloomfield Hills
- Expected to open: Late-May or early-June 2023
Grass-fed smashburgers, hand-cut fries, sandwiches, salads, milkshakes, and more are on the menu at this new casual burger concept. The 2,200-square-foot space can seat up to 35 guests and will be open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. Southwest Greenway

- Expected to open: May 24, 2023
The Southwest Greenway, which is part of the 27.5-mile Joe Louis Greenway that connects the Riverfront to Michigan Central Station and the surrounding neighborhoods, is celebrating its long-awaited grand opening. When complete, the Joe Louis Greenway will offer an easily accessible public space for residents and visitors; detroitriverfront.org.
