Detroit 75 Kitchen

Known for their wide-reaching online presence as well as their popular food truck; brothers Mike and Ahmad Nassar founded Detroit 75 Kitchen in Southwest Detroit in 2014. Now, 12 years later, the eatery is getting its first brick and mortar location on Stephenson Highway in Madison Heights — just a short drive away from the pop-up space it previously used off of John R near Oakland Mall.

The eatery, which boasts a 100% halal menu, is known for sandwiches like the Detroit-Style Cheesesteak, Russell Street Vegetarian, and multiple shawarmas. Since its opening coincides with the first Friday of Lent, the new Madison Heights location will highlight its Fisher Fwy. Sunda New Asian

- When: March 10
This long-anticipated Southeast Asian eatery plans to make its Michigan debut on March 10. Sunda New Asian — which has four other locations in Chicago, Nashville, and Tampa — will be opening in District Detroit, an area for shops and businesses close to Detroit’s sports stadiums owned by Olympia Development. Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant

An Illinois-based chain restaurant is opening its fifth Michigan location on March 2. Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurant, a self-described “upscale causal dining” eatery that also includes a wine tasting room and market. It is known for its Wine Club membership program. The program offers perks like a complementary wine each month; higher tiers include a complementary monthly wine tasting for two. The Beverly
- Where: Berkley
Berkley’s newest restaurant addition opened in late January. It’s the latest concept from Bar Pigalle owner Travis Fourmont and executive chef Norman Valenti. The Beverly’s winter menu features plentiful seafood selections like oysters, mussels, shrimp, and Hamachi crudo. Other food selections include charcuterie boards, lamb shanks, smoked chicken wings, a house made sausage, pork coppa, a half chicken — and the famed Pigalle Burger. This brand-new tiki bar opened in the basement of Ann Arbor’s Echelon Kitchen & Bar on Feb. 12. The drinks program is led by Max Schikora (formerly bar manager at Mabel Gray), and the food menu is overseen by chef Joseph VanWagner — the same team behind the restaurant upstairs. Expect a contemporary take on tiki drinks like Mai Tais and pina coladas — plus entertaining drinks made to share with 4-6 people like High Tides, described as “classic punch on steroids,” and the Octo-Shotski — an octopus-shaped drink carrier holding six shooters. Recent Food & Beverage Headlines
Mutiny Bar is closing in Southwest Detroit.
A tiki bar that has been operating in Southwest Detroit since 2017 announced it is shutting down for good after March 1. “Unfortunately, with current business levels, it’s no longer possible for us to continue,” Mutiny Bar management said in a Feb. 16 announcement on its social media pages. The company thanked its longtime customers, inviting them in coming weeks to “raise one last glass, share your favorite stories, and help us send Mutiny off in true tiki style.” Co-owner John Kwiatkowski told the Detroit Free Press that a new concept for the space would be announced in coming weeks.

Dixboro House’s Golden Hour Wine Tasting: Flâneur

Dixboro House has been hosting a monthly Golden Hour Wine Tasting series, each month highlighting pours from a specific winery. This month, the featured winemaker is Oregon-based Flâneur. During the 45-minute experience, guests can sample and learn about each bottle from a wine expert and are given the option to purchase wines to take home at the end of the tasting.
5-Course Slo Down Wine Dinner
- When: Thursday, Feb. 19
- Where: Adelina, Detroit

Downtown Detroit’s Adelina is hosting a 5-course dinner with a representative from San Francisco-based Slo Down Wines guiding guests through each course.
Royal Oak Whiskey Festival
- When: Saturday, Feb. 21

An Evening with Royal Tokaji Wine Company

Open to the public with purchase of an auxiliary membership fee and open to all ages, Carbon Athletic Club is bringing back an exclusive Hungarian dinner event.
