Macomb Artist Matt Busch is Coming Out with His First Film.

You may know Matt Busch from his art featured in movies like Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Stranger Things, and the Star Wars universe. Now, he has written and directed his first film, Aladdin 3477: The Jinn of Wisdom, which is part of his Aladdin 3477 trilogy.

Washtenaw Teacher Named 2022 DTE Energy Foundation’s Educator of the Year.

Emily Zdyrko, a theater arts educator at Washtenaw Technical Middle College in Ann Arbor, was named DTE Energy Foundation’s Educator of the Year for her work on improving the school’s already-strong performance-based study of drama in the English classroom, along with her creation of the WTMC writing club.

Shooting at Michigan State University Leaves 3 Students Dead and Injures 5 Others.

Three Michigan State University students are dead and five more are injured after an active shooter opened fire inside of Berkey Hall and the Student Union just after 8:15 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13.

Four-year-old stole the show at Red Wings game.

During their matchup on Saturday, Feb. 11, the Detroit Red Wings beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-2, but a St. Clair County 4-year-old named George, who was attending his first game, stole the show when the crowd went wild again and again as he appeared on the jumbotron at Little Caesars Arena.

Unidentified Object shot down over Lake Huron.

The object was flying about 20,000 feet over the lake on Sunday, Feb. 12, in a path that could have been hazardous to civilian air travel. The U.S. military shot it down after airspace had been temporarily closed. This was the second object recently shot down in U.S. airspace. The other was a Chinese spy balloon off the coast of California on Feb. 4.

New bar coming to Hamtramck will serve drinks focused on the metaphysical and homeopathic properties of its ingredients.

Opening March 3, The Black Salt will offer classic cocktails, mocktails, pour-over coffee, loose leaf tea, and “spell cocktails.”

Detroit Pistons and Red Wings team up to help homeless dogs in the city.

The teams are working with Friends of Detroit Animal Care and Control — a nonprofit that works with the city’s shelter to find a permanent home for animals — to offer ticket packages that include a donation to the nonprofit and team merchandise.

Detroit-based beauty brand The Lip Bar is now the largest Black-owned brand sold in Target.

Melissa Butler, a Detroit native and the founder of the brand, shared the news in a recent Instagram post. In addition to its flagship store in downtown Detroit, The Lip Bar is available in 750 Target stores and 500 Walmart stores nationwide.

Detroit puts out an open call for nearly 20 public art projects.

The city is looking for Detroit-based artists to submit proposals for murals at the Godfrey Hotel, DTE Substation, Stein Park, and other locations. Folks have until March 19 to submit.

Two short films about Detroit painters will run on PBS.

The films on Sydney G. James and Senghor Reid are part of Firelight Media’s short film series with American Masters called In the Making. The series premieres at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival, taking place Feb. 17-26, and will later air on PBS.

Super Cities! Detroit, written by Daralynn Walker, weaves together history, pop culture, geography, sports, music, and trivia to make learning about the city fun for kids.

Detroit Youth Choir to perform an annual concert at Orchestra Hall.

The group, who is gearing up for the AGT: All-Stars finals the week of Feb. 20, will perform March 19  alongside Tony Award-winning Broadway star LaChanze.
